I Miss My Country
I hope it returns before I die
The United States of America where have you gone?
Oh land of the free and home of the brave, where are you?
We fought for independence from the very beginning
yet we are still bound by the indulgence of avarice and greed.
We said we built a nation on the concepts of equality, truth,
And the rule of law, yet we despise each other because of them.
Where is the America I grew up in?
Is the hatred so deep that we cannot recover our collective dignity?
Where are the heroes, the men, and women who boldly spoke to stupid?
Yes, that is a judgment, but how else can I view the destruction of a nation.
Men and women were proud of their goals, achievements, and lives.
Is that still true today? It’s hard for me to say yes to that. How about you?
We said we were the greatest nation on earth, once it was true.
We were told many years ago that we would destroy ourselves from within.
We now stand on the precipice of financial, cultural, and moral decay.
There will be a thousand reasons why, but one stands out most to me
We simply refuse to love each other enough to overcome our selfishness,
We haven’t yet remembered how to live in peace with our neighbors.
We haven’t remembered the value of the human being, the human condition.
We haven’t remembered to see through the madness into the eyes of mankind.
Is there hope? I want to believe it, who doesn’t? But will we change?
Our word was our bond, now we are bound by lies, the mother is a hostage.
But she will not be imprisoned forever. She will live on, we will die.
I beg of you…live in peace, stay in dialogue, refuse violence in all forms.
Breathe brothers and sisters, we can come together if we lift our hearts
respecting the dignity of all life…all life. Please open your minds and hearts
to each other.
Let the children live in love, peace, joy, and fulfillment. Let true freedom ring.
