It doesn’t mean what you think it does

It is what I have done most of my life! I waited for the right time. I waited until the resources were available. I waited until my confidence was at a peak level. Well, I almost waited too long!

Fortunately for me, I woke! Well, not every day and all the time, but I’m gaining on it and one of the acronyms that landed on me was timely and influential. I was listening to a 7 minute spot by Louise Hay (1926–2017), author of “You Can Heal Your Life” and visionary of publishing Hay House Inc.

In the video below Hay offers a phrase that stuck with me ever since I first heard it and it is just one of the hundreds of techniques she used to reshape lives.

W. A. I. T. — What Am I Thinking

If I have heard it once I have heard it a gazillion times. You are what you think! Right? Well, maybe! I recognize that a good attorney is taught to be able to argue both sides of a case, and there are those who would argue that the law of attraction is hogwash, but that is not my point here. That is an argument for another day.

What struck me here so conclusively is if I was to use the acronym regularly I could, almost immediately, change my mind! And lord knows there are times when I need to change my mind. So, I tried it! And you know what? It worked! Ok, call me gullible, but I know what I experienced.

Talk about flipping a switch! I was stunned! I immediately began to use this technique day after day, along with the other questions Louise and others recommended and lo and behold, I began to change and I began to add phrases like, “ I have a choice…I don’t have to think that, or how else can I view this?” I began to expand the vocabulary of choice and unintentionally my perspective and personal power have slowly begun to shift.

Hear me, please? I am a 66-year-old man, with 2 failed marriages and a ton of baggage in the caboose of my life, and even though I have been studying the power of positive thinking almost since Dr. Norman Vincent Peale wrote the book of the same title in 1952 (coincidentally the year I was born) I have never experienced the influence of an acronym like I have with W.A.I.T!

Maybe I’m just ready! Maybe it’s just coincidence? Nah! I found something that prevents me from chasing the rabbits down the rabbit holes and I can begin to focus on what I really want! I am beginning to think well of myself and others and to be aware of the choices I actually have as well as the alternative thoughts that are possible for me if I allow them to be present.

Lookout people, the neuropathways are connecting! If I sound excited…I AM! (can one sound excited when there is no sound?) W.A.I.T., of course, I can. I am learning that I can choose to think whatever I want.

Esther and Jerry Hicks (successful co-creators of the Law of Attraction) were once accused of being delusional at one of their seminars and apparently, Esther said something to the effect, “thank you, yes we are.” They were simply thinking what they wanted to think and had the awareness of believing that what they thought was beneficial to them.

So, when I begin to doubt myself, or when I fall into the thoughts of failure or of not being good enough because of past indiscretions, I W.A.I.T. and ask myself “What Am I Thinking?” which then allows me to pause long enough to change the course of my thinking and pursue the thoughts and dreams of a lifetime. And yes, I am saying that I am a young, vibrant, 66-year-young man with a lot to offer this planet and I intend to deliver like I never have before! I like the way I think!
